Kermit Says… is back, and with lots to share! Apologies for my absence, but these last few weeks have been quite a whirlwind filled with non-stop travel for job interviews. With every application, resume, cover letter, educational philosophy, recommendation letter, phone interview, and on-campus interview, I can’t help but see parallels between my current experience and my students’ as it relates to their college application process. Just as I had to keep up with my teaching load and prepare for day-long interviews with demo lessons, my students have also had to balance school work and college apps with sports practice and extracurricular activities. It’s exhausting and draining, but boy does it pay off in the end! My hope is that I will receive offers from the amazing schools to which I’ve applied, and I can’t help but hope the same for all students. There’s nothing like seeing your hard work pay off. So, once those acceptances start pouring in, how do you make a decision?

Visit. Schools, like most things, look great on paper, so be sure to go on a visit and experience the school culture, the classes, and the people with whom you’ll work and play.

Weigh your options. I’m a pro/con kind of girl, and writing down the advantages and disadvantages of each school is an effective way to see just what you’d be getting into.

Trust the process. I’m not a betting woman, but I am a praying one. Having faith gets me through impossible situations, especially when I have no clue what may be on the other side. Whatever your belief, have faith that everything will happen as it should.

Making big decisions like where you’ll attend school or where you’ll work are tough. I get that, and I’m right there with you. The idea of leaving your family and friends is scary. The idea of starting over and doing something you’ve never done before is almost paralyzing, but you made it this far, right? Look, there’s something burning on the inside of you: a dream, a goal, a purpose. Don’t let your fear be bigger than your faith. Make the best choice for YOU! Whether you’re choosing between 10 options or 2, don’t fear the decision-making process and don’t fear what comes next because the truth is you’ll be a rockstar wherever you land.
