Happy Friday, friends! I don’t know about you, but I’m absolutely jumping for joy since we’ve finally made it to the end of another pretty long week. The week before Thanksgiving break and after elections has, at times, felt pretty unbearable, and yet here we are. Cheers to the weekend and another Friday Finding countdown!

Favorite Find: Baylor Stands Up Against Hate. After Trump’s surprising presidential win, over 400 hate crimes have been reported. That’s a record number in such a short amount of time, and again, that number only includes those who have come forward. Black Baylor University student, Natasha Nkhama, is one of those brave individuals who shared such an experience.

The day after the election, Natasha was headed to class and pushed off the sidewalk by a white male student who reportedly shouted “No niggers allowed on the sidewalk.” When a passerby witnessed the exchange and came to Natasha’s defense, the perpetrator responded by saying “I’m just trying to make America great again.” Two days later, Natasha exited her dorm and found nearly 300 upstanders eager to protect, support, and walk her safely to class. This bold and selfless move sends a message that speaks louder than the perp, Trump, and those who share his racist, sexist, ablist, xenophobic, and homophobic ideology. This true act of kindness and community beautifully demonstrates that love will always trump hate!

Honorable Mention: POTUS and VP Memes. They say we laugh to keep from crying, right? Well this week’s first honorable mention is sure to make you cry (and maybe pee a little) from laughing so hard! I can’t reiterate how much the election results surprised, angered, and even terrified so many, but instead of begging the Obama Administration for a third term, we are ushering Uncle Joe and Papa Barry out in hilarious style with these latest memes filled with some much-needed comic relief. I know it’s so hard to choose, but which ones are your favorites? Comment below!

Honorable Mention: Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast is and will always be one of my favorite Disney films. In my elementary school’s performance of the feature film, I played Mrs. Potts, and I’m almost positive I still have my original VHS tape (and maybe a photo or two from my stage debut). I must admit, I’m a bit nervous to see the live action version, which premieres in the U.S. March 17, 2017. I hold this classic so near and dear to my heart, it’s hard to imagine anything else. What can I say, I’m attached to my childhood. So many happy memories are permanently fixed, I’m not ready to let them go or have them ruined like so many other films–Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, anyone (though Netflix’s upcoming retelling of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events looks delightful and quite promising)? Anywho, I’ll hold my judgment until I see it in March, but from what I can see from the trailer, it looks like it’s fairly similar to the original. Fingers crossed that it’s just as beautifully magical too! What do you think? Will you be seeing Beauty and the Beast and/or A Series of Unfortunate Events? Comment below.
