Who else is in disbelief that it’s April?! I swear I was just celebrating the new year and creating my vision board. Like most people, I remember starting 2017 off super focused on reaching my goals, and while I’ve met many of them, a few still seem to be a touch out of reach not because I don’t want them, but because I just haven’t been disciplined enough to really go after them. One of these goals is to improve my physical health, which has honestly been what feels like a lifelong battle. But as my mom says, “nothing beats a failure but a try.” In other words, as often as I struggle with my weight and overall health, my persistence and will to keep trying is the only thing that keeps me from failing, at least completely. And because it’s a new month and a Monday, I thought this would be the perfect time to try try again.
As I spent much of last night meal prepping, I was listening to Pandora Radio (as usual) when Justin Bieber’s “All In It” came on. While chopping up the vegetables, pre-heating the oven, and seasoning my protein, I couldn’t help but tune in more closely to the lyrics where Bieber sings, “Don’t do nothin’ ‘less your heart’s in it/ Don’t do nothin’ ‘less you’re all in it.” Hearing Bieber’s chorus repeat over and over again reminds me that when we want something and if we want it bad enough, our hearts have to be in it, we have to care deeply, give of ourselves fully, and keep going regardless of whatever adversity we face, even if we’re the ones standing in our own way.
Now, I know Bieber gets a lot of flack, but I honestly think he’s spot on. While I’m such a believer in treating myself and indulging, so often I know I shouldn’t have that extra basket of fries, finish that box of cookies, or take the elevator. So often I know I should eat more vegetables and get off my couch, but knowing something isn’t enough. I have to put in the work. I have to be all in it.
So, friends, whatever goals you have in mind, whatever vision you have for yourself, you don’t have to be perfect, but you should at least put your best foot forward. I’m going to keep trying, and I hope you do, too!
