Welcome to Kermit Says…

Some people say, “life is hard.” Others say, “life sucks.” I say, “life is what you make it.” Focusing on the difficulties of life gets you no where–fast! The truth is, it’s difficult being a lot of things. It’s difficult being Black in a society that tells you you’re nothing but a criminal. It’s difficult being a woman when society tells you you’re too emotional. It’s difficult being left-handed in a world designed for righties. Because television shows, music videos, and countless social networking sites are constantly telling you who you should be, what you should think, and how you should behave, it makes it unbelievably difficult to know who you are, where you come from, and where you want to go, let alone to challenge those social standards.

In elementary and high school, young people recognize even more of these social standards and begin to embark on a long journey of self-discovery. For some, this journey can be challenging, frustrating, confusing, and even scary; but with proper guidance, support, and tools, young people can successfully navigate these waters and emerge as self-aware individuals, critical thinkers, and advocates for themselves and others. So yeah, life can be pretty difficult, but it’s a lot easier when you have a strong support system and when you believe in yourself.

Now I’ll admit, the reality of the previous sentence exists in a perfect world. In fact, there are a few more factors that either make life a little easier to live or make you a stronger, better-equipped person to live it. Whatever the case, if you’re looking for advice on how to be brave in a world filled with cowards, how to live positively in a world filled with negativity, and how to live radiantly in a world filled with people who yearn to dim that light—among other things—then Kermit Says… is just for you! This motivational, inspirational, and conversational experience is designed for and dedicated to young people–particularly young people of color–who desire to stand out above the crowd, but need a little help, a little guidance, and a little inspiration to do just that. You’ll have an opportunity to ask personal questions and read those responses, view my own motivational musings, and request individual and group coaching sessions and speaking engagements. Regardless of your intentions, Kermit Says… is meant to empower young hearts, enrich young minds, and equip young hands to do both well and good!

  1. About two weeks ago, I read all of your posts in one day. I LOVE this. I LOVE you. Kirstin, you always know exactly what to say and some times it’s unintentional. Regardless, I am so happy to see this and to know that you are shining your light and spreading your love to the world. Remember me when you get famous!
